It was my birthday once again and once again the godfather
wanted to buy me lunch at my choice of place. This year I decided to pick
Pueblo Viejo. I’d been here a few times
in the past and always had a good meal. When we entered we were seated right
away and the godfather told them it was my birthday and they said they did a
free dessert.
Right away chips and salsa and a bean dip were delivered. The
chips were all right and the salsa was good, it had a little bit of a kick but
still wasn’t too hot and the bean dip was all right, but I wasn’t too excited
about it. We took a little bit of time to look at the menu and I thought that a
chile verde burrito would be good. I
found one of the combos that had that as well as one of my favorite items a
crispy chile relleno. So that’s what I decided to get, the number 19 I think
combo. This also came with rice and beans. This is actually what I got on one
of my previous visits as well. The godfather said he had never had either of
those, but thought if I thought it was good that it probably was good, so
that’s what he got as well. And I also ordered a Coke to go with it. While we
waited for our food we caught up on everything going on in sports and in life
in general and in not too long, actually pretty quickly our food was delivered.
The chile verde burrito had huge chunks of pork in it that just fell apart and
a very tasty chille verde sauce in and on top of the burrito. The chile relleno
was a crispy version, egg roll type one. This was very good and covered in
green chili which was a bit different than the chille verde and was kind of
interesting when they mixed. The rice and beans were not too exciting and the
plate was topped with lettuce and tomato. I really liked this burrito and
thought it went perfectly with a crispy chilie relleno. And not only did I like
this, but the godfather really enjoyed his as well and even said he would come
back and get the same thing. Once I decided I ate enough I asked for a box and
ate a couple more chips and salsa.
Then our waiter returned and asked what kind of dessert I would like; fried ice cream, Sopapillas, or churros and I thought the Sopapillas sounded like the perfect thing to get. So shortly after he brought out the Sopapillas and more of the staff was with them. They put a sombrero on me and sang happy birthday in Spanish and in English. Once I got the hat taken off I started in on the Sopapillas which were six triangles covered with cinnamon and sugar, topped with whipped cream and drizzled with honey. I haven’t had Sopapillas in quite a long time and I thought these were really good. I didn’t really like the whip cream so much and I thought they could use a little more honey, but other and that it was a very good way to end a very good meal. One of these days I may have to return and either try something else on their menu like a chile Colorado burrito or maybe just get the same thing, but either way I should get a very good meal.
